DeCaMap.
Real-time wildfire and natural disaster coordination for firefighters and first responders.
Real-time information where coordination matters most.
The challenge
Fire brigades and drone operators need a shared view of fast-changing incidents. DeCaMap combines geospatial data, live team communication, and drone imagery to support wildfire and natural disaster coordination.
My contribution
I led requirements engineering, system architecture, and full-stack implementation at NCG, Maynooth University. The stack combined a Nuxt.js frontend, Node.js/NestJS services, and a PostGIS database.
- Live map tooling, team and event management, and WebSocket communication.
- Drone video streaming with scrubbing, tagging, and filtering.
- 360-degree imagery using Pannellum and in-video distance measurement.
- Django and FastAPI endpoints for machine learning services.
- Microservices delivery through GitHub Actions and Azure.
- Stakeholder demonstrations and multi-party field exercises with first responders.
The result
The platform secured €1 million through the Science Foundation Ireland DefOrg Innovation Challenge. I worked with the Product Owner to evolve the MVP toward a scalable multi-tenant SaaS product.
